Hi all,
Paula and I just got back from the SOS Spring Safari. What a blast!! We had beautiful weather
and a great turnout at our party at Fat Harold’s with 4 new members joining us.
On Saturday we had our annual SOS parade and we won 2nd place for “Most Original” and we received a check for $200. Yea!!! So with the generous donations that were made for our float
(you know who you are) we actually ended up ahead on the parade. I am so proud of how well we
all performed; we had the crowd cheering us on. During the award ceremony at Fat Harold’s we presented Jessica with a card and a token of our appreciation for all the work she did for us. We
have a most generous and great club.
So with this said, I would like to dedicate this month’s newsletter to Mary Carson, one of the most important and dedicated members of our club. Mary has been our backbone and without her we probably wouldn’t have a club. She has been a member of WSSC since 1999 and has been our treasurer since 2002. She is a past president of the Atlanta Shag Club and also did some Deejaying for that club for several years. She even played at Ducks and Fat Harold’s during SOS back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. She started dancing when she was 10 years old and learned to shag on a concrete slab with a jukebox at Pullen Park in Raleigh where she grew up and she has been dancing ever since. Mary went to St. Mary’s and UNC-Chapel Hill where she graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education (although she has never taught). She married right out of college and raised two daughters as the family traveled around NC with Bell South and finally ended up in Atlanta. She had a stained glass business for several years working with home builders around the Atlanta area. The crash of the housing market ended the business but she continued to produce custom pieces and still dabbles with it from time to time. She currently works in the Commercial Real Estate department of BB&T in downtown Winston. Mary is one of the most dedicated people we have and we are all very proud to have her as a member of our club.
_____________Paula and I will see you on the dance floor.
